POSITION: REGISTERED NURSE

UNIT: CRITIAL CARE NURSING RESOURCE TEAM

STATUS: FULL TIME

SALARY: $33.90 - $48.53

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The registered nurse is responsible for establishing therapeutic relationships with patients and their families through application of specialized knowledge, skill and judgment, both in assessing health needs and in planning, implementing and evaluating patient care. The CCNRT nurse will support both the ICU and the ED.  The Intensive Care Unit is a 16-bed unit equipped for arrhythmic and hemodynamic monitoring, with ventilator capability. The Emergency Department is a full service ED designed to meet the unscheduled and emergency needs of approximately 56,000 patient visits per year. STEGH is one of the best performing hospitals in Ontario for ED wait times.

HOURS:
Must be available for 7.50 and 11.25-hour day, evening, night, weekend and statutory holiday tours, and other tours assigned by the hospital.

SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Registered Nurse, currently registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Graduate of a BSc in Nursing or education and experience that allows the RN to practice at full scope
  • Previous one (1) year ICU/ED  experience within the last three (3) years required
  • Ability to assess changing situations quickly and respond accordingly
  • Critical Care and/or Emergency Certification through the Canadian Nurses Association preferred.
  • Current BLS-HCP and ACLS required.
  • 5 and 12 lead ECG Rhythm interpretation required
  •  Preference will be given to candidates with CTAS certification, TNCC, ENPC, NRP, or PALS training course or a willingness to obtain
  • Ability to adapt and work within a constantly changing environment.
  • Proven ability to work independently utilizing strong organizational, leadership and problem-solving skills
  • Proven assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation skills related to acute medical nursing
  • Demonstrated acceptable performance record
  • Excellent attendance record in accordance with the Attendance at Work Program.

CONTINUING EDUCATION REQUIRED:

  • Maintain competencies to ensure they are relevant and up to date on a continuing basis
  • Maintain and continuously enhance competencies through continuous learning in order to base practice on knowledge and skills relevant to client health needs
  • Reflect on competencies in relation to changes occurring in the surrounding society and health environment in order to acquire and develop new competencies on an ongoing basis
  • Responsibility for educational support for competent nursing practice is shared among individual nurses, professional nursing organizations, employers, education institutions and governments as they make decisions that affect the common goal of quality care
  • Foster a culture of patient and staff safety guided by STEGH’s Mission, Vision, Values and Code of Conduct
